Ruby Kate Albritton Pangle

Ruby Kate Albritton Pangle, of Etowah, TN, and most recently Cleveland, TN, passed away peacefully at age 90, on Tuesday, March 18, at 10:45am.

Ruby was born in McMinn County on Feb. 12, 1935, to Lena Etta Carver Albritton and husband, Elmo Ferdinand Albritton. She grew up on a farm in the Claxton community in McMinn County. Because she was raised on a farm, Ruby was well-versed on every bird, animal, and tree of East Tennessee. She was also an amateur artist.

Ruby attended Claxton School in McMinn County. In 1952, she met and married James Franklin Pangle, of Etowah, TN, who joined the Air Force. They were then based in Ramsgate in the county of Kent, England, for James’ three years in service.

Upon their return to the United States, James took what would become a lifelong job at Bowater, residing in Etowah, and Ruby was a housewife raising two daughters.

Ruby was preceded in death by her parents, Lena and Elmo Albritton, her sister, Catherine Albritton Miller, nephews Greg Albritton and Jeff Albritton, and brother, Zane Albritton.

She is survived by her daughters, Janie Pangle Jones, (husband, Allan), of Cleveland, and Susan Pangle Cooper, of Woodbridge, VA. Grandchildren, Courtney Jones Pendergrass (husband Chris), of Cleveland, Abigayle Kate Jones of Lexington Kentucky, William Allan Jones III (wife Katie), John Bailey Jones (wife Ellen), all of Cleveland. Jennifer Elizabeth Cooper Edelman (husband Michael), James Andrew Cooper, all of Woodbridge, VA.

Great Grandchildren are Virginia Kate “Gincy” Pendergrass, Harper Quinn Jones, Hadley Katherine Jones, all of Cleveland. Sister-in-law Jean Pangle Hughes, Nephews Steve Hughes, and Ricky Hughes of Etowah, and Glen and Lynn Miller of Marietta, GA.

Graveside service will be held on Thursday, March 20 at 2pm at Green Hills Cemetery in Etowah, with the Rev. Jerry Everly presiding. He has a special relationship to the family, having married Ruby’s daughter Janie (to husband, Allan), christened Ruby’s granddaughter Abby, married her grandson, Will (to wife, Katie), and presided over the service for Ruby’s husband, James. Rev. Everly now will preside over Ruby’s service.
