Marlin Russell Shelton, 65, a resident of Spring Hill, TN, passed away Tuesday, August 18, 2020 at his home. He was born in Ludowici, GA, and was a former resident of Cleveland. He was of the Baptist faith. Rusty, as he is known, began his career as a paramedic in Montgomery County, graduating first in his class from the University of Tennessee Nashville. He succeeded in rising to Vice President Director of Safety, Health, Environmental. Over a span of 35 years he worked for companies such as J.A. Jones Const., International Paper, Frucon, PenGulf, Toyota Motors, Boh Corp and Bell and Assoc. Over the years he received many awards and recognitions including the Governor's Award of Excellence. He was a loving husband, father, and grandfather and great grandfather. His favorite pastimes were hunting, golfing, fishing, and cheering on the Tennessee Vols and the New Orleans Saints.
He was preceded in death by his father, Elvis Shelton.
He is survived by his wife of 36 years, Sonyalyn Shelton of Spring Hill; mother, Kathryn Shelton of Clarksville, TN; three children, Christopher Shelton and wife Angel of Cleveland, Melissa Roberts of Cleveland, and Jennifer Ozmore Shaw of Cleveland; five grandchildren Katelyn Shelton, Phillip Cummings, Alexandra Grulke, Cody Shaw, and Nathan Cross, all of Cleveland; one great grandson, Jacob Grulke, two brothers, Chuck Shelton of Clarksville, TN, and David Shelton of Christiana, TN.
A celebration of his life will be held at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, September 5, 2020 in the chapel of Ralph Buckner Funeral Home.
