Laura Mae Edwards

Laura Mae Stewart Edwards, 84, a resident of Cleveland, passed away Saturday, March 20, 2021 in a local hospital.  She was a long time member of Mt. Carmel Baptist Church.  She was a homemaker, beautician, child care provider, and enjoyed spending her time doing volunteer work.  She was a loving wife, mother, and grandmother who loved spending time with her family.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 47 years, David Leon Edwards; parents, Charles Jordan Stewart and Della Mae Carter Stewart; sister, Gladys Stewart Keaton;  brothers, Lowell Stewart and C.J. Stewart; and grandson, Steven Wright.

She is survived by her five children, Terri Miller of Spring City, Debbie and Benny Hoge of Ooltewah, Rita Edwards of East Ridge, William (Ben) Edwards of Cleveland, and Jeanie and Stevie Wright of Cleveland; 11 grandchildren, Laura Ramasamy, Jeremy Kanipes, Benjamin Hoge, Jr., Zachary Miller, Ashley Sovastion, Mollie Childs, David Denton, Eli Wright, Michael Darity, Ashanti Darity, Summer Wright; 20 great-grandchildren; two brothers, James Stewart of Oregon and Edwin Stewart of Greenville, TN; and several nieces and nephews also survive.

A celebration of her life will be conducted at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday, March 25, 2021at Mount Carmel Baptist Church with Reverend Steve Huff officiating.  Interment will follow in Mt. Carmel Cemetery with Zachery Miller, Jeremy Kanipes, David Denton, Eli Wright, Michael Darity, Ashanti Darity, and Benjamin Hoge, Jr., serving as pallbearers, and Scott and Hunter Vest serving as honorary pallbearers.  A white dove release ceremony and the playing of bagpipes will conclude the service.

The family will receive friends from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Wednesday, March 24, 2021 at Ralph Buckner Funeral Home and Crematory.
