Joyce Laverne Barber Bennett, 73, of Cleveland, passed away Wednesday, June 17, 2020 at her home. She was a member of the First Christian Church Disciples of Christ. She had worked as a ward clerk at Bradley Memorial Hospital for five years and retired from Cherokee Park Hospital (Cleveland Community Hospital) as a unit secretary/supply technician after 15 years of service.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Roy Haley Barber and Evelyn Louise Scoggins; and daughter-in-law, Sandra Bennett.
She is survived by her husband of 55 years, Richard Aaron Bennett; three sons, Roger Aaron Bennett and wife, Mary Ann Bennett, Randell James Bennett, and Rodney L. Bennett, all of Cleveland; eight grandchildren, Cayla J. Bennett, Courtney M. Michaels, Felicia M. Bennett, Gabriela B. Bennett, Blake C. Bennett, Amanda L. Martinez, Stephanie Bennett, and Justin Bennett; 12 great-grandchildren, Renae J. Brown, Carson W. Collins, Kayah E. Martinez, Naila L. Martinez, Jake Visage, Joshwa Visage, Jayce Visage, Judith Visage, Lamirra Lane, Layla Lane, Saphira Bennett, and Drayk Bennett; two sisters, Nancy Duke and husband Conrad of Cleveland and Beverly Flowers and husband William (Bill) of Cleveland; brother, Gerald Barber and wife Elaine of Etowah, Tennessee; and several nieces and nephews also survive.
A celebration of her life will be held at 1:00 p.m. Monday, June 22, 2020 in the chapel of Ralph Buckner Funeral Home with Reverend Zoe Renfro officiating. Interment will follow in Sunset Memorial Gardens with Blake Bennett, Justin Bennett, William Morrison, Billy Thomas, Brent Burgner, and Mikael Julian serving as pallbearers. A white dove release ceremony and the playing of bagpipes will conclude the service. The service will be live-streamed on Ralph Buckner Funeral Home’s Facebook page for you to view.
The family will receive friends from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Sunday, June 21, 2020 at the funeral home.
