John Wesley Moats

John Wesley Moats, 62, passed away Tuesday, July 18, 2023, at a local healthcare facility, with family by his side. He was born here in Cleveland, and worked for Duracell. John was a wonderful man with a great sense of humor, and a loving father and grandfather. He was much loved by his family, and will be dearly missed. 

He was preceded in death by his parents, Allen and Betty Moats.

He is survived by his devoted partner, Debbie Barnes; his daughters, Melissa Ann Anthony (Michael) of Scottsville, KY, and Megan Michelle Moats of Cleveland, TN; a grandchild, Kirsteyn Leigh Spivey, of Anchorage, AK; a sister, Betty Darbe (Danny) of Gainesville, GA; four brothers, Allen Moats, Jr., Freemon Moats, Dewayne Moats, and Jayson Moats. Several nieces and nephews also survive.

A celebration of his life will be conducted at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, July 21, 2023 in the chapel of Ralph Buckner Funeral Home.  Interment will follow in Lee Cemetery with Allen Moats, Jr., Jayson Moats, Joseph Chiolo, and Michael Moats serving as pallbearers. A white dove release ceremony and the playing of bagpipes will conclude the service.

The family will receive friends from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Thursday, July 20, 2023 at the funeral home.
