Joe Max McClure Sr., age 87, a resident of Cleveland, TN, passed away Monday, April 13, 2020 at his home surrounded by his loving family.
He was born on November 23, 1932 to the late Lee and Daisy Ailey McClure. He loved being a member of the South Cleveland Church of God. He worked as a radio operator and a Corporal in the United States Army in the Korean Conflict. From 1955 until 1985 he worked at Southern Bell Telephone and from 1985-2005 he owned Joe McClure Telephone Service. He was affectionately called “The Telephone Man”.
He is preceded in death by his parents, his son Joe Max McClure Jr. and his brother William McClure.
He is survived by his loving wife Freida Jones McClure. They were married for 68 wonderful years; His son Mitchell L. (Sherri) McClure of Cleveland, Tn; Five grandchildren, Rananah Christian, Joshua, Jonathan, and Zachary McClure, and Sara Hartman; Four Great-grandchildren, Kayla, Abigail and C.J. Chastain, and Gabrial McClure; Several nieces and nephews also survive.
The family would like to thank the special caregivers from Hospice of Chattanooga and At Home Primary Care.
A graveside service will held at Sunset Memorial Gardens on Thursday April 16, 2020 at 2:00 P.M. with the Reverend Edwin Lipsey and Reverend Mitch McClure officiating. A white dove ceremony and playing of bagpipes will conclude the service.
In lieu of flowers the family would like memorials sent to South Cleveland Church of God Prime Timers. Mail to 1846 Volunteer Drive, Cleveland, Tn 37311.
