James L. Kirkpatrick

James L. Kirkpatrick, age 85, a resident of Cleveland, passed away Tuesday, January 30, 2007, in a Chattanooga hospital. He was a member of Macedonia Baptist Church where he was a former deacon and Sunday school teacher. He was retired from Magic Chef where he was a master machinist for 47 years. He was a veteran of the United States Army serving in World War II in the South Pacific. He was a fifty year member of the Cleveland Masonic Lodge F & AM and a member of the York Rite and also the Alhambra Temple. Mr. Kirkpatrick was the son of the late John Rufus Kirkpatrick and Vida Barker Kirkpatrick and was also preceded in death by four sisters: Melba "Beb" Samples, Nada "Doc" Jones, Anna Lou "Tootie" Rogers and Eola Park; daughter-in-law, Cathy Kirkpatrick. Survivors include his wife of 61 years, Gladys Ownby Kirkpatrick of Cleveland; two children and daughter-in-law: James "Bob" Kirkpatrick and Linda Kirkpatrick of Woodstock, GA and Marvin Kirkpatrick of McDonald; five grandchildren: Jason Kirkpatrick, Caleb Kirkpatrick, Casey Kirkpatrick, Josh Kirkpatrick and Melissa Kirkpatrick; two step-grandsons; four step-great-granddaughters; one sister, Mary Bivens of Cleveland; one brother, John "Buddy" Kirkpatrick of Cleveland. Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. Thursday in the chapel of Ralph Buckner Funeral Home with his sons, Marvin Kirkpatrick and James "Bob" Kirkpatrick, officiating. Interment will follow in Chestuee Cemetery with military honors. His family will receive friends from 5:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home followed by a Masonic Service at 7:30 p.m. The family requests memorials be made to the Chestuee Memorial Association, 160 Savannah Avenue, N.E., Cleveland, Tennessee 37312.
