Hazel Avans, 89, of Cleveland passed Thursday, September 8, 2022. She was a member of Mount Olive Church of God in Cleveland, TN. Hazel was born to Carl Wesley Trotter and Chassie Mabell Wooden Trotter, July 29, 1933. She was a lifelong resident of Bradley County and a retiree of the Charleston Hosiery Mill in Cleveland. Hazel enjoyed music and travel and she adored her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Onless Avans; one son, Onless Dewitt Avans sisters Georgetta Black and Zelma Holt; and her parents.
She is survived by daughter, Marlene and James Huff; daughter, Angela and James Lockhart; brother, Wesley and Betty Trotter; sister, Geneva Brewer; grandchildren, Tisha Myers, Andrea Thomas and Heather Payne; great-grandchildren, Ethan Myers, Cameron Myers, Brady Thomas, Aiden Thomas and David Payne; several nieces and nephews.
A funeral service will be conducted at 2 p.m. on Monday, September 12, 2022 in the chapel of Ralph Buckner Funeral Home in Cleveland with Brother Gary Sears officiating. The interment will follow immediately after the service at Hilcrest Memorial Gardens in Cleveland with a dove release and bagpipes.
Hazel’s family will receive friends from 11:00-2:00 p.m. at the funeral home prior to the service.
Serving as pallbearers are David Myers, Ethan Myers, Cameron Myers, Wade Thomas, Chris Poole, and Timothy Payne. Honorary pallbearers include; Brady Thomas, Aiden Thomas and David Payne
