George Rhine Oister, 69, passed away Friday, July 30, 2021 at Starr Regional Medical Center in Athens, TN. He was a resident of Calhoun, TN for the past 28 years. Mr. Oister was a United States Marine, where he served two tours in Vietnam and was awarded the Bronze Star and two Purple Hearts during his time in the Marine Corps, along with many other ribbons and medals. Mr. Oister attained the rank of Sergeant before finishing his enlistment in 1975. He then enlisted in the Army National Guard in 1982 where he served until 1989. During the course of his life he worked as a Mechanic, over the road Truck Driver, Police Officer, Sheriff’s Deputy, and the past 15 years in Loss Prevention. He enjoyed reading SiFi book series, working on computers, computer gaming, and most of all, fishing.
He was preceded in death by his father, Howard Rhine Oister.
He is survived by his loving wife Patricia Oister of Calhoun, TN; his mother, Janet Elaine (Tyson) Oister of Pawley’s Island, SC; daughter, Heather Oister Simkins and husband Kevin of Cherry Hill, NJ; son, James Oister and wife Amanda of Athens, TN; sister, Debbie Goggins and husband Jim of Pawley’s Island, SC, along with grandchildren: Allison, Kaitlyn, Jacob, Arianna, and Elijah Oister.
Honoring his wishes, there will be no services. Family and friends are welcome to visit “George Oister Remembered” on Facebook to leave condolences, messages, or share pictures and stories in his memory for the family.
