Clyne Buxton

May 9, 1923 — August 14, 2024

Cleveland

Clyne W. Buxton was born on a farm near Chicora, Mississippi. He learned early how to work and later managed the family farm as a youth.

An ordained minister of the Church of God, he held a short pastorate in Canada and three in Alabama.

He also served the Church of God, his denomination, for six yeas as state youth and Christian education director in Alabama, where he issued more teacher-training certificates than any other state.

After completing a degree in journalism at Samford University, he served for sixteen years a director of Sunday school and youth literature at Pathway Press where he was also editor of The Lighted Pathway, a youth publication.

Later, he was editor of a sixty-four page quarterly ministerial journal for seven years and led the publication to the highest award bestowed by the Evangelical Press Association, which represented more than 250 religious publications throughout America.

Clyne was widely known as an author, including a book on lesson preparation and another for ministers, a volume used for weddings, funerals, and baby dedications. He was author of nine books; however, he is best known for his five books on eschatology, which are used in private study, Sunday school, midweek study, and Bible institutes.

His writings have been translated into German, Hungarian, and Korean. He was gifted in making difficult biblical points about the future and understandable. He wrote a weekly column for five years in the Cleveland (TN) Daily Banner under the heading “The Bible and Current Events,” which was well received.

Mr. Buxton was married to the late Mary Broadus Buxton, who passed away in 2018. They had one child, Clynette Buxton Pemberton, who is an educator and resides in Knoxville, Tennessee, with her husband, Dr. Larry Pemberton.

Clyne leaves to cherish his memory his daughter Clynette (Larry); grandchildren, Valerie (Shawn), Jon (Elisabeth), David; great grandchildren: Olivia, Gabrille, Jacob, Owen, and Ashlynn, and a host of relatives and friends.
