Charles Ray Abercrombie

March 5, 1940 — May 8, 2021

Charles Ray “Charlie Brown” Abercrombie, 81, of Cleveland entered into heaven through the Gates of Glory on Saturday, May 8, 2021.  He was assured of this because he believed that John 3:16 was true and that “God so loved the world that he sent his only son, Jesus that whomever believed in him would not perish, but have eternal life.” We can be assured of a reunion with Charles in heaven if we believe and trust in Jesus as our Savior and Lord.

He was born on March 5, 1940 in McCaysville, Ga. to James C. and Alma N. (Wright) Abercrombie.  He worked most of his adult like in the produce and grocery business, working at M.C. Headrick’s Grocery Store, Superior Cash Market, and retired after over 35 years of service at Cooke’s Food Store at their Spring Place Road location, where he was the produce manager.  He was an active member of First Baptist Church of Georgetown and a member of the Senior Men’s Sunday School Class for several years, and enjoyed mission service.  After retiring, he went on multiple disaster relief trips and loved working with the CrossNet Baptist Network during their Ocoee Outreach Summer Mission Program.

He was preceded in death by his parents James C. and Alma Abercrombie, his wife Linda Abercrombie, brothers James Abercrombie and Ralph Abercrombie, step-brothers William Abercrombie, Oliver Abercrombie, John Abercrombie, and J.T. “Tasker” Abercrombie, and several extended family members and friends that he was reunited with in heaven upon his death.

He is survived by his sister, Ellen Stafford, children James “Sam” Abercrombie, Brenda Weaver, Charles “Darren” Abercrombie, Patrick (Angie) Abercrombie, and Jerry (Cathy) Cartwright; grandchildren Daniel Abercrombie, Robin Abercrombie, Jonathan “Andy” Abercrombie, Richie Carroll, Alex Abercrombie, Lee Cartwright, as well as multiple nieces, nephews, great-grandchildren, great-nieces, great-nephews, countless other family, and friends.

A funeral service will be held Wednesday, May 12, 2021 at First Baptist Church of Georgetown at 7:30pm with the Reverend Earl Farris and the Reverend Leonard Castleman officiating.  The church is located at 8212 State Highway 60 Georgetown, TN 37336. A private burial will take place with the family at a later date with the Men of First Baptist Church of Georgetown serving as honorary pallbearers.

His family will receive friends on Wednesday, May 12, 2021 from 4:00pm-7:30pm at First Baptist Church of Georgetown prior to the service.
