Clinton H. Fortner, age 92, a resident of Cleveland, passed away early Friday morning, December 16, 2005 in a local hospital. He was born April 1, 1913 in Murray County, Georgia, to the late Miles H. and Laura Louella Thompson Fortner, but lived his adult life in Bradley County. Four brothers: Robert Fortner, Harvey Fortner, John Henry Fortner and Marion Fortner, and three sisters: Hattie Queen, Vinnie McIntire and Mrytle Williams, also preceded him in death. He retired from Hardwick Stove Works and was a veteran of the U. S. Navy serving in the Pacific during World War II. He enjoyed both hunting and fishing, but most of all fishing. Mr. Fortner was a member of Hopewell Baptist Church in Cohutta, GA. He is survived by four daughters: Louise Pankey and husband E. L. of Benton, Peggy Moore husband Charles of Cleveland, Carol Fortner of Cleveland, and Phyllis Newton of Chattanooga; one son, Ken Fortner and wife Elizabeth of Cleveland; and seven grandchildren, four great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
