James Ronald "Shorty" Freeman, age 65, went home to be with his Lord Thursday, May 4, 2006. He was born May 1, 1941 to the late James Billy and Mary Ardela Freeman. He was also preceded in death by a sister, Norma Jean Freeman, his first wife, Edna Horn Freeman, step-son, Quinton Chastain, and step-father, Allie Parris. He was an active member of Galilee Baptist Church. He retired from Cleveland Utilities after 37 years of service and was later employed with Colloms Plumbing for several years. He is survived by his wife, Wilma Horn Freeman of Cleveland; brother, Homer Freeman and friend Charlotte Howard of Cleveland; sisters and spouses: Carolyn and Jim Plumley of Cleveland, Martha and Jackey Crumbley of Cleveland, Ruthene Rivers of Collegedale, Elaine and Don Wax of Riceville; step-sons: Wayne Chastain of Cleveland, and Kenneth Chastain of Old Fort; step-brother, Eldon Pearsall, and step-sister, Karen Lear, both of Michigan; six grandchildren and fourteen great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews and friends. Funeral services will be conducted at 1:00 p.m. Monday in the chapel of Ralph Buckner Funeral Home with Reverend Don Weaver and Reverend Ray Cheatham officiating. Interment will follow in Hilcrest Memorial Gardens.
