Paul H. Bacon, Sr., age 88, a resident of Cleveland, passed away Sunday, October 15, 2006 in a local hospital. He was a member of Broad Street United Methodist Church since February 1, 1959. He was a past president of the Kelly Sunday School Class where he was very active for many years. He was a veteran of the US Army Airforce serving in World War II in the South Pacific and Quam. He was a life time member of the American Legion Post # 81 and was also a member of the VFW and the Cleveland Elks Club. He was a former member of the Cleveland Country Club. Mr. Bacon retired as mill accountant at Hardwick Clothes after 32 years of service. He was affiliated with Miller Real Estate for several years where he held a brokers license. Mr. Bacon was the son of the late Benjamin Harrison and Mamie Epperson Bacon. He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Mamie Beasley Bacon of Cleveland; two children and spouses: Paul H. Bacon, Jr. and Sheryl Bacon of Cleveland and Chita Bacon Johnson and Paul Johnson of Alta Loma, California; four grandchildren: Lauren Bacon of Nashville, Morgan Bacon of Athens, Georgia, Chita Katherine Johnson of Starkville, Mississippi and Adam Johnson of Kansas City, MO; two brothers and spouses: Willard and Ruth Bacon of Newport News, VA and William R. and Gretchen Bacon of Montgomery Village, MD; several nieces and nephews also survive. Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday at Broad Street United Methodist Church with Pastor Andy Ferguson and Pastor Debbie Stokes officiating. Interment will follow in Sunset Memorial Gardens with Jim Park, Adam Johnson, Lamar McKenzie, Allan Jones, Robbie Ray and Scott Taylor serving as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be the Kelly Sunday School Class. His family will receive friends from 5-7 p.m. Monday at Ralph Buckner Funeral Home.
