Charles A. Thurman, age 90, a resident of Bradley County, devoted husband, loving father and grandfather went home to be with the Lord, Saturday, January 06, 2007 at the family residence. He was a pioneer in the Church of God faith and helped build several churches in the local area and was presently a member of Ooltewah Church of God. Mr. Thurman was retired after 25 years of service to Chris Craft Boating Company. He served many years as custodian in the Bradley County School System. He had a love for building clocks and furniture throughout the years. He was preceded in death by his parents, W.Z. and Nancy Thurman; daughter, Betty Jean Tinker; grandchild, Vickie Dawn Goodwin and son-in-law, Ken Elliott. He is survived by his wife of 68 years, Ruby "Naomi" Thurman, of McDonald; daughters: Edna Elliott of Rossville, GA, Charlsie Oglesby and husband, Winston of Ringgold, GA, Rachel Goodwin and husband, James and Pat Callihan and husband, Larry all of McDonald; eleven grandchildren: Lamar Fisher, Lynn Gambel, Dee Callihan all of LaFayette, TN, Penny Callihan of Cleveland, Mike Tinker, Chuck Tinker, David Tinker and Delinda Wallace, Arlene Pondextor, Rickey Oglesby all of Ringgold, GA, and Valerie Goodwin of McDonald; 14 great grandchildren; 3 great great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday in the chapel of Ralph Buckner Funeral with Reverend Edmond Stallings and Reverend Walter Bateman officiating. Interment will follow in Lee Cemetery in McDonald with Mike Tinker, Carl Tinker, Chuck Tinker, David Tinker, Dee Callihan and Josh Pettyjohn serving as pallbearers. The service will conclude with a white dove release ceremony.
