Dr. Richard Lynn Cox, age 68, of Knoxville, Tennessee formerly of Cleveland, Tennessee and Long Beach, California, died unexpectedly Friday, February 9, 2007 in Park West Hospital. He was a member of West Hills Baptist Church in Knoxville, Tennessee and was a former member of Westwood Baptist Church. He was born in Long Beach, California in 1938 and graduated from California State University in Long Beach and the University of California Irvine Medical School. He practiced Internal Medicine in Long Beach, California from 1970-1993 and was a clinical professor of medicine at UCLA from 1971-1981. He had a private practice in Cleveland from 1994-2006. Dr. Cox was the son of the late Rosser Cox and Rose Marie Sweeney Cox and was also preceded in death by a son Joseph Cox. He is survived by his wife, Linda Wright Cox of Knoxville; four children and spouses: Scott and Peaches Cox of San Jose, California, Rachele and Jeff Powers of Long Beach, California, Alec and Vanessa Cox of Knoxville, TN and John Cox of Chattanooga; four grandchildren: Makani Lyn Cox, Brandon Cox, Courtney Cox and Leah Long; two brothers: John Charles Cox, PHD of Houston, Texas and Rosser Cox, Jr. of Las Vegas, Nevada. A memorial service will be conducted at 7:00 p.m. Monday in the chapel of Ralph Buckner Funeral Home with Pastor Jim Caywood officiating. Inurnment will be in All Souls Cemetery in Long Beach, California. His family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Monday at the funeral home prior to the service.
