Maude Rose Howell

June 30, 1916 — February 25, 2007

Maude Hannah Rose Howell died Sunday morning, February 25, 2007 at Sky Ridge Hospital in Cleveland, TN. She was born June 30, 1916 n Haywood County, NC to the late Carson and Theodocia Hannah. She was a long-time resident of Iron -Duff community near Waynesville, NC. Her last years were spent in Cleveland, TN with family and friends. Ms. Howell retired from Haywood County Hospital after 22 years of service as a nursing assistant. As a member of Welcome Hill Baptist Church in Canton, NC, she served as a Sunday School teacher for several years. Favorite pastimes included Christian tours with various destinations on the east coast, camping, and spending time with family. She was preceded in death by her husband, John Hal Rose; her second husband Paul J. Howell; sisters Josie Sutton, Carrie Conrad, Ruby Rose and brothers Jess Hannah, Carson Hannah, Thurman Hannah, Medford Hannah and two infant brothers. Survivors include her daughters, Stella Nell (Susie) Messer of Cleveland, TN and Joan R. Hill of Clyde, NC; her six grandchildren, Davisro (Lorraine) Messer, Judy (Dave) Slagle, Trudy (Al) Lilly, Eugenia (Richard) Moore, Ricky (Sherry) Hill and Jennifer (J.D.) Frizzell; and eight great-grandchildren, Davis Hal Messer, Sara Nance, Jay Messer, Ernie Hill, Mary Hill, Jessica Slagle, Catherine Slagle, Samuel Moore and Taylor Messer. Local visitation will be held at from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Tuesday, February 27, 2007 at Ralph Buckner Funeral Home in Cleveland. Visitation will also be held from 12:00 noon to 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, February 28, 2007 followed by a chapel service at Wells Funeral Home in Waynesville, NC. The reverends Robert Rose and Ronnie Jenkins will conduct the service. Internment will follow at Crawford Memorial Gardens in Clyde, NC. Nephews Doyle Rose, Leonard Sutton, Joe Hannah, Bruce Hannah and great-grandsons Hal and Jay Messer will serve as pallbearers. Memorials may be sent to Joe Hannah at 745 Sutton Town Rd., Waynesville, NC 28785 to cover costs associated with maintenance of the family cemetery at Sutton Town.
