Reverend Julius Mahon, 85, of Charleston, TN went home to be with his Lord Sunday, May 6, 2007. He was born in Ragland, WV, on June 26, 1921. He was a member of New Friendship Baptist Church. Brother Mahon, as he was lovingly called, had pastored churches in North Carolina, Texas, Tennessee and West Virginia. He served as interium pastor for several churches in Polk and McMinn Counties after his retirement from full time ministry in 1983 from Connelly Memorial Baptist Church in Delbarton, West Virginia. These churches were very special to him. He attended Mars Hill College and was a graduate of Baylor University and Southern Baptist Theological Seminary in Louisville, Kentucky with a Masters of Divinity. He was well-known for his powerful sermons, extensive Biblical knowledge, and exceptional teaching abilities. However, he was best known for his sincere care and compassion for all people. He was a veteran of the United States Army Aircorp where he proudly served in World War II in the Pacific Theater and received several service medals. He was an avid ham radio operator for over 50 years developing friendships all over the world. He enjoyed building his own radio equipment. A lifelong learner, at age 80 he proudly became computer literate and an active e-mailer-especially with his grandsons. He was preceded in death by his parents, William and Cosby Mahon and grandson, J. London Sanders. He is survived by his beloved wife, Lorene Beam Mahon; one daughter and son-in-law, Dianne Mahon Sanders and Jack of Charleston; two grandsons, Joshua Sanders and wife Kristina of Ridgefield, CT and Benjamin Sanders of Eagleville, TN; brothers, Robert, Homer and Elias Mahon of Delbarton, WV, Frank Mahon of Stollings, WV and Eddie Mahon of Morristown, TN; sisters, Allene Mahon Duty and Elsie Mahon Tackett of Alabama. A celebration of life service will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, May 12, 2007 at the New Friendship Baptist Church with Pastor Larry Bryant and Reverend Paul Arnett officiating. Interment will follow in New Friendship Baptist Church Cemetery with military honors. Pallbearers will be Gene Cox, Dewain Creekmore, Prentice Edgemon, Cephas Geren, Jim Nichols and Robert Hamilton. His family will receive friends from 5-8 p.m. Friday and also 10-11 a.m. Saturday at the church prior to the service.
