William H. ?Bill? Schultz III, 83, a lifelong resident of Cleveland passed away Friday, June 8, 2007 at his home. He was a member of Broad Street United Methodist Church for 75 years. Mr. Schultz was a veteran of the U.S. Army Air Force serving in World War II. He was a 60 year member of the Ballinger Masonic Lodge 643 A.F.& A.M. in TX. After graduating from McMurry College in Abilene, TX, he returned to Cleveland and worked in education from 1948 to 1976 during which time he served as the principal of Templeton Hill Elementary, Allen Elementary, Bradley Central High School and Cleveland Day School. Mr. Schultz was appointed mayor of Cleveland in 1984 and served until 1991. He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Ina (Joni) Schultz of Cleveland; son, Robert J. Schultz; daughter and son-in-law, Jennifer Schultz Taylor and Robert L. Taylor of Cleveland; grandchildren: Jonathan Schultz and wife, Holly, Amelia Schultz Brock and husband, Michael all of Cleveland and Mary Elizabeth Taylor of Nashville; great grandchildren: Elliott Caroline Brock, Addison Elise Brock and Madeline Blythe Schultz all of Cleveland and many cousins. Funeral services will be conducted at 1:30 p.m. Sunday, June 10, 2007 at Broad Street United Methodist Church with the Reverend Andy Ferguson and the Reverend Debbie Stokes officiating. Interment will be at 1:00 p.m. Tuesday in Chattanooga National Cemetery with military honors. His family will receive friends following the service until 4:00 p.m. in the Triplett Hall at the church.
