Roy Dickerson

Roy (Papaw Ted) Dickerson, Jr., 85, a resident of Cleveland for the past 54 years, passed away Saturday, July 28, 2007 in a local healthcare facility. He was of the Methodist faith. He was the owner and operator of Cleveland Transfer and Storage for forty years. He was involved in the City of Cleveland Public Service Unit Task Force in its early years. He was a life member of the VFW and past commander of Cleveland Chapter and was also past district commander who was very involved during the 60?s and 70?s. He was a World War II veteran serving with the 17th Airborne (Gliders) during the invasion of Germany till VE Day, then with the 82nd Airborne as a M.P. in Berlin till December 1945, then returned home aboard the Queen Mary and then marching in the Victory Parade in New York City. He was awarded the American Theatre Ribbon, Good Conduct Medal, Eastern Theatre Ribbon with two bronze SV Stars and the Bronze Star Medal. He was discharged in January 1946. Mr. Dickerson was the son of the late Roy Thomas Dickerson, Sr. and Josephine Green Dickerson and was also preceded in death by one sister, Ruby Jo Ratley. He is survived by his wife of 61 ½ years, Nell Dickerson of Cleveland; three children and their spouses: David J. and Karen Dickerson, Eva Jo and Billy Ingram, Garion and Larry Armer all of Cleveland; twelve grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; two sisters: Madge Prichard and her husband, Hershal Prichard of Chattanooga and Boots Holden of Signal Mountain, TN; one brother, H.C. Dickerson of Daytona Beach, Florida; special sister-in-law: Eva Anderson of Malone, Florida; several nieces and nephews. Memorial services will be held on Tuesday, July 31, 2007 at 8:00 p.m. in the chapel of Ralph Buckner Funeral Home. Interment will be conducted on Wednesday, August 1, 2007 at 11:00 a.m. in the Chattanooga National Cemetery with military honors. His family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home prior to the service.
