Debbie Ann Clay, 48, a resident of Ooltewah, passed away Friday, August 3, 2007 at her residence. She was a member of Christ United Methodist Church. She was a loving daughter, mother, wife and friend. She was a graduate of the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga. Mrs. Clay was an ardent volunteer with children?s schools, a valued participant and speaker for the HealthCare Reform Act of 1994 where she worked with former Vice President Al Gore and Senator Hillary Clinton, she also provided sick and disabled children with Santa Claus bearing gifts for them for many years. She was preceded in death by her father, George Elmer Hicks, Jr.; maternal grandparents, James and Jesse Jones and paternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. George E. Hicks, Sr. She is survived by her husband, Wayne Taylor Clay, Sr., daughter, Ashley Ann Clay; son, Wayne "Taylor" Clay II; mother, Emma "Katherine" Hicks; brother, Edward L. Denham, Sr.; brothers and sisters-in-law, Gary and Susan Clay and Leona and Bill Matthews; nephews: Eddie Denham, Jim Denham, Will Clay; nieces: Melinda Evans and Molly Clay all of Chattanooga. Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 P.M. Sunday, August 5, 2007 at Christ United Methodist Church with the Reverend Mark Flynn officiating. Interment will follow at Hamilton Memorial Gardens with Jim Denham, Eddie Denham, Tony Williams, Perry Hixson, Jeff Winn and Michael Overholt serving as pallbearers. Fred Yattoni, Dr. Keith Dressler, Ralph Soulby and John McClellan will serve as honorary pallbearers .A white dove release ceremony will conclude the service. Her family will receive friends from 5 to 7 P.M. Saturday at the church.
