Ponder Lee Geren, Sr., 74, a resident of Cleveland, passed away, Sunday, August 19, 2007 in a Chattanooga hospital. He was a member of Evening Light Gospel Tabernacle. Mr. Geren worked at Overnite Trucking and retired from TVA; he also helped his son in catering at the "Countryside Café" in Ooltewah for the past several years. He was preceded in death by his parents, Homer and Lura Poe Geren; first wife and mother of his children, Alta J. Gambrell Geren and second wife, Ruby Lee Geren; brothers: Haven Geren, Coy Geren, Herman Geren and Earl Geren; sisters: Mary Love Carden and Bobbie Rose Geren. He is survived by his children: Jackie and Billy Yerbey, Ponder and Marlene Geren and Gail and Phillip Robinson all of Ooltewah; seven grandchildren; two great grandchildren; sisters; Lucille Dixon and Betty Scott both of Cleveland. Funeral services will be conducted at 2:30 p.m. Tuesday, August 21, 2007 in the chapel of Ralph Buckner Funeral Home with Pastor Bill Beaty and Pastor Noah Yarber officiating. Interment will follow at Fort Hill Cemetery with Billy Yerbey, Jr., Joseph Yerbey, David Geren, Daniel Geren, Joshua Ridgeway and Heath Owens serving as pallbearers. A white dove release ceremony will conclude the service. His family will receive friends from 5-8 p.m. Monday at the funeral home and one hour prior to the service on Tuesday.
