Alfred Evatt

Alfred "Sonny" "Pop" Evatt, Jr., 75, passed away Monday, August 27, 2007 in a local hospital. He was born and raised in Miami, Florida and moved to Cleveland in 1980. He was a carpenter by trade, worked for Sunland Training Center Vocational Rehab until moving to Tennessee. He was a member of Benton Station Baptist Church. He loved football, gardening, NASCAR and most sports. He was beloved by the mentally handicapped community for his many years of foster parenting. He will be greatly missed. Mr. Evatt was the son of the late Alfred M. Evatt, Sr. and Erma Allie Slade Evatt. Survivors include his wife of 51 years, Nancy Evatt; two children: Kathy Carroccio of Hixson and Dale Evatt of Cleveland; one brother, Wayne Evatt of Charlotte, NC; five grandchildren: Crystal McCay, Michael Carroccio, Melissa Kemp, Zach Evatt and Cemeron Evatt; three foster children: Tony Teley, Greg Laws and Lisa Metzger; six great-grandchildren. A memorial service will be conducted at 6:00 p.m. Thursday at the Benton Station Baptist Church, 909 Benton Station Road, Benton, Tennessee 37307 with Pastor Joel Jenkins officiating.
