William H. Spence, Jr., a life long resident of Cleveland, passed away Saturday, September 22, 2007 at the family home surrounded by his family. He was of the Baptist faith and a member of Maple Street Baptist Church. He was a SFC E-6 in the Army National Guard in which he served from 1954 to 1965. He had worked in Cleveland for many years as the manager of the meat department for Watson?s Tip Top, Wildwood Market and Eric?s IGA from which he retired. He was also a member of the Bradley County Rescue Squad. Mr. Spence was the son of the late William H. Spence, Sr. and Gemmae Brewer Spence and was also preceded in death by a sister, Helen Jenkins; brother and sister-in-law: Estell and Frannie Spence; granddaughter, Tiffany Coffey; brother-in-law, Bob May. He is survived by his wife, Carol Spence of Cleveland; daughter, Vickie Coffey and husband, Dwight of Cleveland; sons: Larry Spence, Jeff Spence and wife Mae, Troy Spence and wife, Kimberly all of Cleveland; grandchildren: Misti and Justin Coffey, Brandon Spence, Samuel Spence and Logan and Kaitlyn Spence; sister, Phyllis Gregg and husband, Charles; aunts: Grace Brewer and Edna Brewer; special friends of the family, Libby, Jodie, Jerry, Jr. and Jerry III Johnson, Blake and Rocky Casteel; brothers and sisters-in-law: James and Joan May, Betty and Alfred Lawson, Linda Taylor, Margaret McClary, Shirley May, Joy and Bo Renner all of Cleveland, Mary Jenkins of Potomac, VA, Martha Sommers of Valley Falls, KS, Gracie McGuffin of Simpsonville, SC and Bill and Shirley May of Maryville, TN; several nieces and nephews also survive. Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday in the chapel of Ralph Buckner Funeral Home with Dr. Reed Wright officiating. Interment will follow in Sunset Memorial Gardens with military honors. A white dove release ceremony will conclude the service. Pallbearers will be Dwight Coffey, Justin Coffey, Brandon Spence, Rocky Casteel, Blake Casteel and Jerry Johnson. Honorary pallbearers will be Sam Spence and Logan Spence.
