Robert Henry May, Sr., went home to be with the Lord on September 23, 2007 at his home in Cleveland. Bob was a member of Maple Street Baptist Church for approximately 30 years. He served tirelessly in the benevolence ministry bringing food, money and prayers to many people in need. He also served as Deacon and Sunday school teacher. He was a devout man of God and a blessing to many people. He served in the United States Army during the time of the Korean War. He was an employee of Herbert Benton?s Used Cars in Cleveland, TN for over fifty years. He was preceded in death by his parents, Henry and Nell May and brother-in-law, Bill Spence. Survivors include his loving wife of 53 years, Shirley May; two sons and daughters-in-law: Robert and Marilyn May of Soddy Daisy and Mark and Renee? May of Cleveland; sisters and brother-in-laws: Betty and Alfred Lawson, Linda Taylor, Carol Spence, Margaret McClary, Joy and Bo Renner all of Cleveland, Mary Jenkins of Potomac Falls, Virginia, Martha Sommers of Valley Falls, Kansas and Gracie and Jim McGuffin of Simpson, South Carolina; brothers: Jim and Joan May of Cleveland and Bill and Shirley May of Maryville; grandchildren: Katie May and Eric and Jennifer May; two step grandchildren Jason Stone and Katrice Cox; two step great grandchildren: Avery and Emma Cox of Soddy Daisy, TN;and a special friend, David Benton. Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday at Ralph Buckner Funeral Home with Reverend Bryan Mowery and Dr. Reed Wright officiating. Interment will follow in Sunset Memorial Gardens with a white dove release ceremony concluding the service. Pallbearers will be Robert May, Jr., Mark May, Eric May, Larry Spence, Troy Spence, Bo Renner and Katie May. Honorary pallbearers will be the Faith Men?s Sunday school class of Maple Street Baptist Church.
