Lester A. Smith, 89, a resident of Cleveland, passed away Wednesday, October 03, 2007 in a local hospital. He was of the Baptist faith. He taught school at Bradley Central High School and Mayfield School. He had his own lab at K-25 in Oak Ridge for 41 years where he was involved in the Manhattan Project. Mr. Smith was the son of the late Samuel Anderson Smith and Minnie Ann Smith and was also preceded in death by his first wife, Julia Watkins Smith. He is survived by his devoted and loving wife, Wilma Neyman Smith of Cleveland; one son and spouse: Dr. Edwin Smith and Beverly Smith of Eau Claire, Wisconsin; two step sons and spouses: Jamesie S. Neyman and Shirley Neyman of Cleveland and Glenn Neyman and Jan Neyman of Chattanooga; one step daughter: Shelvia Jean Neyman of Chattanooga; grandchildren: Kent Smith, Jason Smith, Kely Woods, Mike Neyman, Michelle Neyman, Christopher Neyman and Greg Neyman; great-grandchildren: Andrew Smith, Arianna Smith, both of Eau Clair, Wisconsin, Shantae Neyman, Olivia Neyman and Josh Neyman; sisters-in-law: Bernice Dixon, Myrtle Dixon Stamey, Lorena Dixon, Edna and Bill Maher all of Cleveland; close friends, Bruce and Maria Phelpps of Dayton, TN, John and Mitzi Mitchell of Cleveland and the Kingdom Heirs Gospel Singing Group; many devoted nieces, nephews, cousins and loving neighbors on Harris Circle. Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. Saturday in the chapel of Ralph Buckner Funeral Home with Pastor Anthony Cameron officiating. Interment will follow in Sunset Memorial Gardens with a white dove release ceremony concluding the service. Kely Woods, John Mitchell, Mike Neyman, Christopher Neyman, Dennis Frank, Wendell Dixon, Jason Smith and Kent Smith will serve as pallbearers. His family will receive friends from 4-8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
