Stanley Eugene Matthews

Stanley Eugene Matthews, 65, a resident of Birchwood, passed away Monday, December 17, 2007 in a Chattanooga healthcare facility. He was preceded in death by his parents, Eugene Jewell Matthews and Ruby Lee Young Gates, as well as his step-father, Austin L. Gates, one brother, Homer Ray Gates, and one sister, Judy Kay Blankenship. He was an avid NASCAR fan and also enjoyed fishing and ham shoots. He is survived by two brothers: James Dennis Gates and wife Nancy of Benton, and Larry Steven Gates and wife Marjorie of Cleveland; one sister, Sharon Faye Rowe and husband Edward of Tunnel Hill, GA; two special friends, Joe and Janey Lawson of Decatur; and several nieces and nephews. His family will receive friends from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday, December 20, 2007 at Ralph Buckner Funeral Home.
