Dorothy McNabb Lewis Layman, lovingly known as "Granny Dot", 92, passed away Thursday, December 20, 2007 at her home. She was a member of Mt. Carmel United Methodist Church in Big Spring. She was a volunteer with the R.S.V.P. Program for a number of years. She was an elementary school teacher with Meigs County, Hamilton County and Bradley County School Systems for over thirty years. Mrs. Layman was the daughter of the late Lovic McNabb and Loula Banks McNabb and was also preceded in death by her husband, Ted Layman and her sister, Bessie Layman, Amy Spurlin, Ruby Burdette and Rosa Lee McNabb; two brothers: Carl McNabb and John McNabb; two grandchildren: Danny Bayne and Samantha Whitmire. She is survived by three children and spouses: Patricia and Byron Hendrix of Cleveland, Phyllis and Ben Rountree of Charleston and Joyce Enzena and Joe Nastvogel of Cleveland; six grandchildren: Donna Roach, David Markland, Sammy Whitmire, Janet Goode, Joani McCarthy and Mitzi Ruth; fifteen great-grandchildren; ten great-great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews also survive. Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. Saturday in the chapel of Ralph Buckner Funeral Home. Interment will follow in Sunset Memorial Gardens with Sammy Whitmire, Scott Ruth, Stephen Whitmire, Buddy Derby, Alex Whitmire and Chris Chastain serving as pallbearers.
