Raleigh Lee Brady

Reverend Raleigh Lee Brady, 82, a resident of Cleveland, passed away Saturday, January 12, 2008 in a Bradley County healthcare facility. He was a Director of Missions for 43 years and served 41 of those years in Tennessee. He also served as a pastor to other pastors, and a resource to churches- his view of the association director. His greatest joy had come from leading Baptists in mission work. Rev. Brady served in Clinton Baptist Association in Anderson County for 14 years, Central Baptist Association in McMinnville for six years, and Bradley Association for 20 years. Prior to his work in Tennessee, he served as an association in Kentucky, was a pastor in Massachusetts and Kentucky, and was a summer missionary. He was recognized as the longest serving Director of Missions of the Southern Baptist Convention. He was a member of First Baptist Church where he was a Sunday School teacher and member of the Manly Senior Men?s Sunday School Class. He was a veteran of the United States Army having served in World War II in Europe in many conflicts including the invasion of Normandy on D-Day. Rev. Brady was the son of the late Lewis Brady and Ethel Jones Brady and was also preceded in death by mother-in-law, Gussie Moats; brothers-in-law: Doyle Fowler, Paul Jenkins and James Stiles. He is survived by his wife, Ruth Moats Brady of Cleveland; two daughters and sons-in-law: Patricia Brady Walker and Don Walker of Dyersburg, TN and Claudette Brady Ryan and Ray Ryan of Vonore, TN; three granddaughters: Diana Walker of Cleveland, Lisa Walker of Dyersburg, TN and Beth Johnson of Dallas, Texas; one grandson, Clyde Ray Clark of San Antonio, Texas; one great-grandchild: Javin Wygal of Dallas, Texas; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law: Clifford Moats of Southdale, Arizona, John and Katherine Moats of Lenoir City, TN, Harvey and June Moats of Lenoir City, TN, Betty and Gilbert Williams of Lenoir City, Marge Fowler of Cleveland, Helen and Charles Robinson of Lenoir City, TN and Faye Stiles of Lenoir City, TN; several nieces and nephews also survive. Funeral services will be conducted at 1:00 p.m. Tuesday, January 15, 2008 in the chapel of Ralph Buckner Funeral Home with Reverend Tom Moncrief and Dr. Jay McCluskey officiating. Interment will be conducted at 3:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Lenoir City Cemetery in Lenoir City, Tennessee. Pallbearers will be Del Vaughn, Dustin Vaughn, Clyde Clark, Rodney Jenkins, Greg Stiles, Jimmy Stiles, Phillip Stiles and Randy Williams. Honorary pallbearers will be First Baptist Church Manly Senior Men?s Class. His family will receive friends from 4-8 p.m. Monday, January 14, 2008 at the funeral home.
