Phyllis Griffith Delay

August 23, 1932 — January 18, 2008

Phyllis I. Griffith Delay, 75, a lifelong resident of Cleveland, passed away Friday, January 18, 2008 in a local hospital. She was a member of Big Spring Baptist Church. Mrs. Delay was previously employed at O.W. Hudson Insurance Company and Insurance Incorporated; later she co-owned and operated Southern Sewing Machine of Cleveland with her husband. She was preceded in death by her parents, Clyde W. Griffith and Ada Collette Griffith and brothers, Tommy Griffith and Bill Griffith. She is survived by her husband, Robert D. Delay, Sr.; one son, Bobby Delay and daughter-in-law, Pam; three grandchildren: April Smith, Rob Delay and Courtney Delay; sister: Freda Hysinger and husband, Jerry; brothers, Travis Griffith and Terry Griffith and wife, Donna all of Cleveland; and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. Monday, January 21, 2008 in the chapel at Ralph Buckner Funeral Home with the Reverend Bill Beaty officiating. Interment will follow in Hilcrest Memorial Cemetery with Todd Griffith, J.J. Hysinger, Jim Critchfield, Martin Smith, Eric Sherlin and Russell Rogers serving as pallbearers. A white dove release ceremony will conclude the service. Her family will receive friends from 5 to 8 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society, 850 Fortwood St. Chattanooga, TN 37403.
