Roy R. (Grumpy) Matthews, 84, of Georgetown, TN, died Thursday, January 24, 2008 at a local hospital after a short illness. He was a rural mail carrier for Charleston and Georgetown routes and retired from the United States Post Office. He loved to farm and grow watermelons. He was fix-it man for neighbors and friends and was a trustee for the Johnston Cemetery for many years. He will be sadly missed by all. He was preceded in death by his wife, Imogene Neeley Matthews; his parents, S.G. and Mae Matthews; three half brothers, J.R., Virgil and Vernie Carroll. He is survived by three daughters and sons-in-law: Carolyn and Larry Dunn of Cleveland, Bunny and Junior Farmer and Sharon and George Geren of Georgetown; four granddaughters and their spouses: Darlene and Ricky Murray, Debbie and Bobby Myers, Gina and Aaron Miller and Emily Geren; six great-grandsons and one great-granddaughter; Adam and (Julie) Murray, Dusty Murray, Corey, A.J. and Ethan Myers, Hunter and Hailey Miller; two great-great-grandchildren: Maxwell and Stella Murray; three sisters and their spouses: Lorane and Alvin Harris, Lee and Ben Odom, Mary and the late Fred Murphy; one brother and his spouse: Jack and Sue Matthews; many nieces, nephews, friends and neighbors also survive. Memorial services will be conducted at 7 p.m. on Saturday, January 26, 2008 in the chapel of Ralph Buckner Funeral Home with Reverend Hoyle Ellis and Reverend David Evans officiating. His family will receive friends from 4-7 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home prior to the service.
