Helen Pauline Thompson, 86, a lifelong resident of McDonald, passed away Thursday, February 21, 2008 in a local hospital. She was a member of Bancroft Church of God for over 60 years. Mrs. Thompson was preceded in death by her husband, Lee F. Thompson; parents, Charlie Goodwin and Sarah Bancroft Goodwin and several brothers and sisters. She is survived by her son, Robert Lee Thompson and daughter, Charlotte Thomson Cain, son-in-law, Joe Cain all of McDonald; 5 grandchildren: Robbie McWhirter of Cleveland, Rebecca Cheryl Laub of Midway, UT, Rita Lynne Thompson of Savannah, GA, Gregory N. Cain and Benjamin Lee Cain both of McDonald; 5 great grandchildren:Meredith Freeman, Megan and Mason Jones, Bridger and Paxton Laub; 2 sisters: Ruby Thomas of Sanford, NC and Hazel Jeffors of Chattanooga; a very special friend, Jo Melton, of McDonald and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. Sunday at Bancroft Church of God with the Reverend Norman Stallings and the Reverend William Curtis officiating. Interment will follow in Bancroft Cemetery in McDonald with a white dove release ceremony concluding the service. Pallbearers will be Gregg Cain, Benji Cain, Lonnie Jeffers, Gerold Sherlin,, Stanly Goodwin and Steven Sherlin. Her family will receive friends from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday and Saturday at Ralph Buckner Funeral Home.
