William (Willie) DeFriece, Sr,. 69, a resident of Calhoun, went home to be with the Lord on Friday, February 22, 2008 at his home after a short illness. He was a member of Kinser Church of God. He was a very loving and caring husband, father, grandfather and friend to many. He loved his family very much and will be greatly missed. He loved to play his guitar while sitting on his front porch. He loved sports and was an avid bowler for many years. Willie also loved fishing and racing. He was a veteran of the National Guard serving for eight years. Mr. DeFriece was the son of the late Earl and Emma DeFriece and was also preceded in death by three brothers: Carl DeFriece, Junior DeFriece and Bill DeFriece; three sisters: Mary Ruth Dowdy, Geneva Malone and Christine Weitzner. He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Ruby Goodner DeFriece of Calhoun; two sons and their wives: Robbie and Angie DeFriece, Wendell and Lisa DeFriece all from Cleveland; six grandchildren: Chanda and Christopher DeFriece, Stephanie DeFriece, Ashley Green, Brandi and Brian Bivens; five great-grandchildren; one brother, Johnny DeFriece of Conyers, Georgia; one sister, Tommy Katherine Atchley of Stone Mountain, Georgia; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law: Wilma and Mack Martin and Mary and James Hope; several nieces and nephews also survive. Funeral services will be conducted at 3 p.m. Tuesday, February 26, 2008 in the chapel of Ralph Buckner Funeral Home with Pastor Guinn Green, Pastor Jerry Millwood and Pastor Lee Ingram officiating. Interment will follow in McInturf Cemetery in Birchwood with military honors. His family will receive friends from 4-8 p.m. Monday, February 25, 2008 at the funeral home.
