Stacey Lafawn Bancroft

July 20, 1933 — February 27, 2008

Stacey Lafawn Bancroft, 74, a resident of Cleveland, passed away Wednesday, February 27, 2008 at a local hospital. He was a loving husband, father and grandfather. He loved square dancing, spending time with family and friends and collecting rocks. He was a veteran of the United States Air Force where he retired after twenty years of service and also served in the Vietnam Conflict as an aircraft electrician. He loved serving his country and was a life member of the DAV where he was the treasurer for fourteen years. Mr. Bancroft was the son of the late Darius Bancroft and Estella Bancroft and was also preceded in death by a brother, Delbert Bancroft and a sister, Naomi Die. He is survived by his loving wife of 50 years, Marge Bancroft of Cleveland; children and spouses: Mila Ogle and fiancée Buddy Smith of McDonald, Karen Bancroft and fiancée Steve Goins, Stacie Lynn and Allen Nope, and Kristi and JR. Burke all Cleveland; eight grandchildren: Rachael Morrison, Katie Rakestraw, Trista Curtis, Matthew Curtis, Devan Curtis, Zeke Burke, Ema Burke and Evan Nope all of Cleveland; three great-grandchildren: Langlee Morrison, Eli Morrison and Madison Curtis all of Cleveland; siblings: Ralph Bancroft of Chattanooga, Cletus Bancroft of Georgia, Jack Bancroft and Don Bancroft both of Cleveland, Doris Hopkins of Maryland and Genieve McFarland of McDonald; several nieces and nephews also survive. Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Monday, March 3, 2008 in the chapel of Ralph Buckner Funeral Home with Reverend Kenneth Nope and JR. Burke officiating. Interment will be held following the service at 1 p.m. Monday at Chattanooga National Cemetery with military honors. Ken Sosobee, Shane Morrison, Matthew Curtis, Ronnie Murray, Dickie Earls and C.J. Ellis will serve as pallbearers. The Calico Square friends will serve as honorary pallbearers. His family will receive friends from 5-8 p.m. Saturday, March 1, 2008 and also from 2-5 p.m. Sunday, March 2, 2008 at the funeral home.
