Jack Douglas Allen, 86, a resident of Cleveland, passed away Saturday, March 8, 2008 in a local healthcare facility. He was a member of Broad Street United Methodist Church. He was past president of the Chamber of Commerce, the Cleveland Country Club and the Village Merchants. He served on the Elks Grand Lodge Committee and was past state president of the Tennessee Elks Association and also Exalted Ruler of Elks Lodge 1944, and a member of the Tennessee Elks Hall of Fame. He was a graduate of MTSU and a member of the MTSU Music Hall of Fame. He served as Band Director at Bradley Central High School from 1949-1953. He was the manager of Millers Department Store for 22 years and was also an eastern land manager at NERCO. He was a veteran of the United States Army serving in France during World War II and received two purple hearts. Mr. Allen was the son of the late Homer Allen and Blanche Cross Allen and was also preceded in death by a sister, Margaret Spencer and a brother, Robert Allen. He is survived by his wife Betty Margaret Rose Allen of Cleveland; children: Steven Douglas Allen of Brownsburg, Indiana and Lori Allen Rosenbloom and husband, Irving of Knoxville; one grandchild, Kirstie Rose Allen of Brownsburg, Indiana; special canine companion, Bailey; several nieces and nephews also survive. A memorial service will be conducted at 2:30 p.m. Tuesday, March 11, 2008 at Broad Street United Methodist Church with Pastor Andy Ferguson and Pastor Debbie Stokes officiating. A white dove release ceremony will conclude the service. The family will receive friends from 5-7 p.m. Monday, March 10, 2008 at Ralph Buckner Funeral Home.
