James Arthur Atchley

May 1, 1921 — March 18, 2008

James Arthur Atchley, Jr. (Bud), 86, a resident of Cleveland, went home to be with the Lord on March 18, 2008. He was born in Knox County on May 1, 1921. He was a member of Westwood Baptist Church for 25 years. He was a retired commercial equipment salesman and enjoyed work as a greeter at Wal-mart Garden Center for nearly 10 years. He was a veteran of the United States Army serving in World War II. Mr. Atchley was the son of the late James Arthur Atchley, Sr. and Hattie Bibb Atchley. Bud left to cherish his memories his loving wife of 25 years, Marlette Atchley; daughters: Marty Schoocraft, Pamela Bullard and Alan Bullard all of Chattanooga; son, James A. Atchley, III and wife Margaret Price Atchley of Memphis; four step-children: Cherie (Tim) Kuhns of Hixson, Norman (Kaye) McGuffey, Stephen (Shannon) McGuffey, Matthew (Feleena) McGuffey of Cleveland; seventeen grandchildren and was loved by family and friends. Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Thursday, March 20, 2008 in the chapel of Ralph Buckner Funeral Home with Pastor Jim Caywood and Pastor Glenn Taylor officiating. Interment will follow in Sunset Memorial Gardens with military honors. Norman Mohn, Jr., Matthew McGuffey, Lamar Rains, Stephen McGuffey, Alan Bullard, Paul McGuffey and Terry Mohn will serve as pallbearers. His family will receive friends from 5-9 p.m. Wednesday, March 19, 2008 at the funeral home.
