James M. "Mickey" Smith, 57, a resident of Delano, passed away Saturday, April 19, 2008 in an Etowah hospital. He was of the Christian faith. He was a graduate of Birchwood High School. He was the owner of Preferred Insulation. Mr. Smith was the son of the late Elder N. Smith and Irene Davis Smith and was also preceded in death by his brother, Gary L. Smith. Survivors include his son, Coty Smith of Delano; step daughter, Shauna Cronan Melton of Benton; three step grandchildren: Alexis Cronan, Sierra Cronan and Ryan Cronan all of Benton; one sister and spouse: Charlotte June and Bronie Lewis of Cleveland; two brothers: Dewayne Smith and Larry Smith and spouse Shirley Smith all of Cleveland; companion, Donna Smith Gibson of Delano; several nieces and nephews also survive. Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Wednesday, April 23, 2008 in the chapel of Ralph Buckner Home with Reverend James Vaughn and Reverend Ernest Sutton officiating. Interment will follow in Old McDonald Cemetery at Snow Hill with a white dove release ceremony concluding the service. Anthony Smith, Charles Morrow, Dale Hixson, W.T. Garrett, Kenneth Blankenship and Shawn Calfee will serve as pallbearers. His family will receive friends from 2-4 p.m. and 5-9 p.m. Tuesday, April 22, 2008 at the funeral home.
