Hazel Sutton Tatum

September 25, 1930 — April 20, 2008

Winston Hicks, 77, a resident of Cleveland, passed away Sunday, April 20, 2008 at the family residence. He was a member of Union Missionary Baptist Church where he served as a deacon of the church. He was a member of the Valley View Ruitan Club. He was a member of the Bradley County Livestock Association and a life long cattle trader. He was retired from Maytag. He was a veteran of the United States Army serving in the Korean Conflict. Mr. Hicks was the son of the late Charlie Hicks and Rossie Johnson Hicks and was also preceded in death by his siblings: Ruth Ogle, Arthur Hicks, Mabel Tatum, Clyde Hicks, Ed Hicks and Fred Hicks. He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Bernice Dockery Hicks of Cleveland; three children and spouses: Rita and David Cox, Connie and Willie Dills and Danny and Melissa Hicks all of Cleveland; four grandchildren: Buffy Weber, Whitney Cox, Alisha Granado and Ashley Hicks all of Cleveland; five great-grandchildren: Katie Cox, Cody Cox, Maylee Weber, Karsee Weber Charles and Clay Mullinax all of Cleveland; sister, Pauline Burt of Cleveland; brother, Bennie Hicks of Cleveland; several nieces and nephews also survive. Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Wednesday, April 23, 2008 in the chapel of Ralph Buckner Funeral Home with Reverend T.R. Ethridge, Reverend Jim Parm and Reverend Larry Humbard officiating. Interment will follow in Union Missionary Baptist Church Cemetery with military honors. Whitney Cox, Paul Panter, Myron Hawkins, Taylor Caywood, Larry Veal, Randall Dunn and Raymond Baker will serve as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be Harold Hawkins, Hayden Lacy, Bob Long, Hoyt Fitzsimmons and Clifford Murphy. A white dove release ceremony will conclude the service.
