Margaret Sherer

June 16, 1918 — May 2, 2008

Margaret Robertson Sherer, 89, of Jasper, AL, passed away Friday, May 02, 2008, at a healthcare facility in Chattanooga. She was born June 16, 1918, in Clayton, Alabama, and lived there until her education took her to the University of Alabama where she received a Bachelor of Science degree in Physical Education, Class of 1940. After graduation she moved to Jasper, AL, where she taught in the Jasper school system. She was a faithful and active member of the First Christian Church. She was also a member of the AAUW, DAR and the Times Study Club. Mrs. Sherer enjoyed swimming, baking, gardening and talking with other people. She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles H. Sherer; her parents: Arthur and Minnie Lee Robertson; her brother, Arthur Robertson; her mother-in-law and father-in-law: Ilda Mae and Oscar Sherer; and sister-in-law, Nell Erwin. Survivors include: son, Charles H. Sherer and wife Linda of Birmingham, AL; daughters: Margaret Ann Randolph and husband Sheridan of Cleveland, TN, and Sarah Lee Riley and husband Earl of Richland, WA; seven grandchildren: Charlie Sherer, Alison Sherer Williams, Sheridan Randolph, Fielding Randolph, Susanna Randolph, Jonathan Riley and Laura Riley; sister, Jean Robertson of Birmingham; nieces: Nell Daniel and Lynn Jackson; nephews: Arthur Robertson and John Robertson. Visitation will be at the First Christian Church in Jasper, AL, on Monday, May 5th beginning at 1:00 PM with funeral service to follow at 2:30 PM, the Rev. Jack Baldwin presiding.
