Clarence E Scoggins

Clarence E. Scoggins, Jr., 81, a resident of Cleveland passed away Sunday, May 11, 2008 in a local healthcare facility. He was a lifelong member of Bancroft Church of God where he formerly served as church clerk and Sunday School Superintendent and was currently the choir director. Mr. Scoggins was a licensed funeral director and was employed by Ralph Buckner Funeral Home and Crematory. He was the first employee of the current Ralph Buckner Funeral Home and was a funeral director for over 30 years. He was a member of the Fraternal Order of Police Lodge #8. He was also a hunter and a fisherman. He was preceded in death by his parents, Clarence E. Scoggins, Sr., and Rose Anna Goins Scoggins; 3 brothers: Don Scoggins, Claude Scoggins and Bobby Scoggins. He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Syntha Leroy Scoggins of Cleveland; son, Eddie Scoggins and wife, Susan of Cleveland; 3 grandchildren: Jeffry Scoggins, Julie Quinn and husband, Brian of Cleveland and Charissa Newby and husband, Eric of Ooltewah; 6 great grandchildren: Skylar Scoggins, Brandon Scoggins, Erica Newby, Jacob Newby, Emily Quinn and Kinsey Newby; 2 sisters: Wanda Cavett and husband, Leon of East Ridge, Barbara Knight and husband, H.L. of Cleveland; 3 brothers: Reverend Carl Scoggins and wife Reba, Reverend Gale Scoggins and wife, Juanita, and Dennis Scoggins all of Cleveland; sisters-in-law, Charlie Mae Scoggins and Iona Scoggins both of Cleveland; a very special brother-in-law, Dick Leroy of Cleveland and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday in the chapel of Ralph Buckner Funeral Home with Pastor Guinn Green and Pastor Gary Sears officiating. Interment will follow in Mt Olive Cemetery with his grandsons and nephews serving as pallbearers. A white dove release ceremony will conclude the service. His family will receive friends from 5-8 p.m. Monday and 5-8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
