Ernest L Whitmire

Ernest L. "Buck" Whitmire, 98, a resident of Cleveland, passed away Sunday, June 1, 2008 at the family residence. He was of the Methodist faith. He was retired from Burlington Industry. He was a veteran serving in the United States Army. Mr. Whitmire was the son of the late George Minor Whitmire and Cornelia Fields Whitmire and was also preceded in death by his wife Amy Lee Hixson Whitmire and daughter, Ernestine Whitmire. Survivors include his seven children and spouses: Charles and Linda Whitmire of Cleveland, LaMarr and Erma Whitmire of Dalton, GA, Carolyn Kibble, Sam and Kim Whitmire, Joy and Don Boyd all of Cleveland, Gail Poteet of Chattanooga and Pam and Harold Trotter of Cleveland; twenty-three grandchildren; twenty-two great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; one sister, Pansy McGowan of Knoxville; numerous nieces and nephews also survive. Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Thursday, June 5, 2008 in the chapel of Ralph Buckner Funeral Home with Reverend Kenneth Scoggins officiating. Interment will follow in Hilcrest Memorial Gardens with military honors. His grandsons will serve as pallbearers. The family will receive friends from 5-8 p.m. Wednesday, June 4, 2008 at the funeral home. Memorials may be sent to the church or charity of your choice.
