Darryl W. Ownby, age 53, resident of Cleveland, passed away this morning, June 23, 2008 at his home. He was a member of First Baptist Church for the past ten years where he served as a Sunday school teacher and as a member of the Sanctuary Choir. He was a member of the Cleveland Emmaus Community for twenty years and was the Lay Director Elect for 2007-2008. He earned his bachelor degree in accounting from the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga in 1992. He was employed in the Human Resources department of Bowater. He is preceded in death by his grandparents, Charles and Ethel Ownby and Ashley and Ethel Ownby; father-in-law, Judge Bob Rollins; and one nephew. He is survived by his wife of 33 years, Eva Gail Ownby of Cleveland; parents, Ray and Myrtle Ownby of Cleveland; son and daughter-in-law, Kirby and Libby Ownby of Maryville, TN; one brother, Pernell Ownby of Cleveland; one sister, Diane Carroll of Johnson City, TN; mother-in-law, Mary Evelyn Rollins of Cleveland; several nieces and nephews also survive. Funeral services will be conducted at 7 p.m. Tuesday, June 24, 2008 at First Baptist Church in Cleveland with Dr. Alan Lockernan, Rev. Kevin Mendel, Rev. Dale Watson and Rev. Kirby Ownby officiating. Interment will be held 2 p.m. Wednesday, June 25, 2008 at Sunset Memorial Gardens with Nathan Melton, Jim Brigham, Ken Webb, James Webb, Richard Burnette and Dr. John Chambers serving as pallbearers. The Miller-Ownby Sunday School Class of First Baptist will serve as honorary pallbearers. The family will receive friends from 4-7 p.m. Tuesday, June 24, 2008 evening at First Baptist Church. The family wishes that memorials be made to the Generations Building Fund at First Baptist Church in Cleveland. Ralph Buckner Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
