Geneva Phillips Newport, 84, of Charleston passed away, Thursday, July 30, 2009 at her residence. She was a member of Charleston First Baptist Church and was a member of Eastern Star. She was the daughter of the late Mount and Oma Phillips and was preceded in death by her husband Barney Newport and brothers and sisters: Ephraim Phillips, Mary Phillips, Bessie Sexton, George Phillips, Artie Phillps, Winnie Phillips, Luther Phillips, Martha Philllps, Genoa Christine Phillips and twins Clifton and Stella Phillips. Survivors include four children and spouses: Gary and Sylvia Newport of Stafford, VA; Caroline and David Geren; Larry and Janet Newport and Linda and Don Sizemore all of Charleston; grandchildren: Eric Newport,1st Lt. Kevin Newport, USMC, Sarah and Sgt. Steven Stephson, USMC, Jay and Lori Newport; Julie and Josh Melton, Caitlin Geren, Autumn Sizemore, Lisa and Gerry Clements; great-grandchildren: Tyler and Ali Davis, Keller and Calie Melton, Hunter and Jackie Newport, Tucker Powell, Gavin Haney and Bryce Clements; sisters-in-law: Mamie Newport of Harriman, TN and Tiletha Phillips of Jefferson City, TN and special nephew, James Sexton of Harriman, TN and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be conducted at 7:30 p.m., Sunday, August 2, 2009 in the chapel of Ralph Buckner Funeral Home with Reverend Kenneth Isbel officiating. Interment will be held at 11 a.m., Monday, August 3, 2009 in Sunset Memorial Gardens with a white dove release concluding the service. Pallbearers will be Jay Newport, Hunter Newport, Don Sizemore, Josh Melton, Sgt. Steve Stephens, Eric Newport and Tyler Davis. Honorary pallbearers will be S.P. Jones, Carl Colloms, and Warren Blakenship. The family will receive friends from 5:00-7:30, Sunday at the funeral home prior to the service.
