David Anthony Barton, 52, of Cleveland went home to be with the Lord, Tuesday, September 1, 2009. He was born March 12, 1957 in Floyd County GA, to Sylvia Barton and the late Donald A. Barton. He was a graduate of Model High School and attended Floyd Jr. College, Berry College and the University of Georgia. In 1994, he graduated from Toccoa Falls College with a degree in Christian Counseling. He was an Ordained Minister and served as the Youth Pastor at Floyd Springs Baptist Church and also served as director of Abundant Life Counseling Ministry in Rome, GA. David also served as a foster parent with Winshape Homes from 2002-2007. He was a loving father and husband. He was a huge fan of Georgia football and loved coaching his children in basketball. He leaves behind his loving wife of 27 years, Brenda; two daughters: Ashley Cooke and husband, Collin of Knoxville, TN and Whitney Marie Barton of Cleveland; son, Brett Walton Barton of Cleveland; grandson, Jude Cooke; brothers and family: Dody and Hong Barton of Rome, GA and Doug Barton and wife Connie of Silver Creek, GA; two sisters and family Donna Kelley and husband Mike, and Diane Carver and husband Randall all of Rome, GA and mother and father-in-law, Joe and Loraine Momon. Several nieces and nephews also survive. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m., Saturday, September 5, 2009 at Westwood Baptist Church with Reverend Billy Daws and Pastor Steve Best officiating. Interment will follow in Sunset Memorial Gardens with Reverend Jim Caywood officiating. A white dove release ceremony will conclude the service. Josh Hare, Justin Hare, Jeff Herink, Joly Momon, Mike Lively, Peter Knowles, Brett Barton and Mickey Shamblin will serve as pallbearers. The family will receive friends from 5-8 p.m., Friday, September 4, 2009 at Ralph Buckner Funeral Home in Cleveland.
