Lawrence Elwin Johnson

Lawrence Elwin Johnson (Larry) passed away Friday morning, June 7, 2013 at a local nursing home. He was born and raised in Canandaigua, N.Y. on March 16, 1930. His parents were Benjamin James Johnson and Grace Yarger Johnson. Larry came to Tennessee in 1950 where he was married to Geraldine Tate. He lived at several different places in the south. He taught elementary school for 14 years. At the time of his death he was a member of Ladd Springs Seventh-Day Adventist Church. He was preceded in death by his parents, Benjamin and Grace Johnson and also three brothers, Clair Johnson, Kenneth Johnson and Herbert Johnson. Survivors include his wife of 60 years, Geraldine; three sons: Don Johnson of Lynn Haven, Florida, Steve Johnson of Trenton, GA and Chris Johnson of McDonald, TN; eight grandchildren and three great-grandchildren; three brothers: Bernard Johnson of Canandaigua, N.Y., Walt Johnson of Penn Yan, N.Y. and Ben Johnson of Guthrie, Oklahoma. Funeral services will be conducted at 11:30 a.m. Tuesday, June 11, 2013 in the chapel of Ralph Buckner Funeral with Pastor Paul Carlson officiating. Interment will follow at 1:30 p.m. Chattanooga National Cemetery with military honors. Andy Johnson, Chris Johnson, Don Johnson, Josh Johnson, Richie Johnson and Martin Collier will serve as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be Steve Johnson, Carl Tate and Winford Tate. His family will receive friends from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Monday, June 10, 2013 at the funeral home.
