Michael L Akins

Michael L. Akins, 63, former resident of Cleveland, TN and graduate of Cleveland High School in 1969 went home to be with the Lord June 12, 2013 at UNC Neuroscience Hospital in Chapel Hill, NC. Mr. Akins was born on March 28, 1950 in Cleveland, TN to Merrill Preston & Alma Louise Akins. Michael was a faithful member and councilman of the Church of God where he ministered to people through song, word, and deed. Michael was known for his kind heart and was loved and respected beyond measure by all who knew him. He served as a citizen-soldier in the United States Army Reserves for forty years, and retired as a Chief Warrant Officer 04. He was preceded in death by his beloved father, Merrill Preston Akins. He was the treasured husband of, Sis Delimont Akins of Cameron, NC; cherished son of, Alma Louise Akins; beloved brother of, Brenda Akins and Marsha Murray McKenzie and her husband Charlie McKenzie, all of Cleveland, TN; loving father of, Pastor Evan Akins and his wife Julie Akins of Summit, MS; Missy Akins of Hattiesburg, MS; Pastor Tim Arrington and his wife Winter Arrington of Rome, GA; LeAnn Bradford and her husband Chief Petty Officer Chris Bradford of San Diego, CA; cherished grandfather of six, Brandon, Dylan, Nicholas, Payten, Samantha, and Priscilla; loving uncle of many nieces and nephews; friend and coworker of the United States Army Reserve Command Fort Bragg, NC employees; and numerous friends made throughout his life?s journey. The memorial service will be held at 2:00 pm on Saturday June 22, 2013 in the chapel of Ralph Buckner Funeral Home. The family will be receiving family and friends one hour prior to service at the funeral home.
