Lester H. Williams, 83, a resident of Charleston, passed away Tuesday, June 25, 2013 at the family residence. He was a member of East Side church of Christ for over 45 years. He was retired from Westvaco after eighteen years of service. He was a veteran of the United States Army serving in the Korean Conflict and was also a member of the Tennessee National Guard. He loved to make a garden and gave away many vegetables. He was the definition of homebody. He was never happier than when at home or at church. Mr. Williams was the son of the late Elie Martin Williams and Lillie Viola Williams and was also preceded in death by his grandfather, William Henry Green and grandmother, Mary Bell Green; brothers-in-law, Paul D. Odom and Patrick Pierce; infant brother, John Henry Williams. He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Ruby Poteet Williams of Charleston; daughter and son-in-law, Judy Williams Nipper and Bob Nipper of Charleston; two grandchildren: Candace Hammond and husband, Adam of Armuchee, GA and Nicole Cornett and husband, Steve of Woodstock GA; seven great-grandchildren; two sisters, Retha Odom of Cleveland and Mary Margaret Pierce of McDonald; four brothers, Jimmy Ray Williams and wife, Hilda, Earl Williams and wife, Gayle, James Kenneth Williams and wife, Linda and Verlin Maxwell (Mack) Williams and wife, Joyce all of Cleveland; several nieces and nephews also survive. Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. Friday, June 28, 2013 at the East Side church of Christ with Minister Jeff Archey, Minister Bill Maynard and son-in-law, Bob Nipper officiating. Interment will follow in Sunset Memorial Gardens with military honors. A white dove release ceremony will conclude the service. The family will receive friends from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Thursday, June 27, 2013 at Ralph Buckner Funeral Home and also from 1:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. Friday at the church prior to the service.
