Bobby J. Blankenship, 84, of Cleveland, passed away Thursday, July 18, 2013 at his home. Bobby was born in Humboldt, TN to J.A. and Lillie Blankenship. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army serving in World War II and the Korean War. He and his family moved to Memphis, TN, in 1956 where he worked as an accountant in the cotton industry until his retirement from Cargill. Bobby was an avid golfer, a hobby he shared with his wife all of their married life. He was an active member of First United Methodist Church. Bobby was a fine man ? a strong person with a gentle spirit. He was affectionately known as Pop or Pop-e to his grandchildren and great ?grandchildren. His love of the Lord, his family, and his friends played a major role in his life. Bobby was preceded in death by his parents, four brothers and one sister. Survivors are his loving wife of 64 years, Gladys Fiser Blankenship, daughter, Donna Blankenship Barrow (Ed), his grandchildren, Shannon Younger of Brighton, CO and Jennifer Williams of Dayton, TN, great-grandchildren, Jacob, Tyler and Morgan Younger and Haley and Lily Williams. The family would like to thank their friends at Home Health Care of East TN and Hospice for their care, support, and love. Visitation will be held from 4:30 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. Friday, July 19, 2013 at Ralph Buckner Funeral Home followed by a funeral service at 6:00 p.m. at the funeral home with Pastor Tim Bracken and Chaplain Mike Justice officiating. There will also be a visitation on Sunday, July 21, 2013 from 1:00 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. at the Fireside Chapel of Memorial Park Funeral Home in Memphis, TN followed by a funeral service at 2:30 p.m. in the chapel. Entombment will follow in Memorial Park Cemetery. The family requests that memorials be sent to First United Methodist Church of Cleveland, TN, the American Heart Association, or a charity of the donor?s choice.
