Oliver Lee Hammond

Oliver Lee Hammond, Jr., 77, a resident of Decatur, passed away Saturday, March 9, 2013 at his residence. He was a member of Mt. Carmel United Methodist Church. He was a volunteer for the CPD Public Service Unit and a member of the Experimental Aircraft Association (E.A.A.). He was a private pilot for more than 40 years. He was a veteran of the United States Air Force. He was preceded in death by his parents: Oliver Lee Hammond, Sr. and Gladys Hammond and a son: Gary Lane Hammond. He is survived by his wife of 57 years: Carol Hammond; 4 children; son: Mike Hammond and wife, Sue of Georgetown; daughters: Vicky Price and husband, Tony of Memphis; Lisa Beckler and husband, Jerry of Ocoee and Lori McKay of Cleveland; 12 grandchildren: Mike Hammond, Jr. and wife, Traci, Chad Hammond and wife, Dorothy, Joe Hampton and wife, Vicky, Chris Gumm, Bridget Gumm, Sean Price, Trea Price, Dustin Woods, P. J. McKay, Meagan Jones and husband, Jay, Montana Crisp and Roy Crisp; 6 great-grandchildren: Connor Hampton, Peyton Hampton, Bryce Hammond, Malachi Woods, Alexis Ward, Sterling Jones, and a special friend, Joey Little; siblings: Nell Steckman and husband, Ray of Norfolk, VA, Richard Hammond of Lufkin, TX, Elaine Hammond of Hendersonville, TN and Bob Hammond of Cleveland, TN. A Celebration of Life service will be conducted Tuesday, March 12, 2013 in the chapel of Ralph Buckner Funeral Home at 7:00 p.m. with the Reverend Hugh Bryan and Dr. Ralph Rivers officiating. A private family interment will be Wednesday, March 13 at Johnston Cemetery. Honorary pallbearers will be Mike Hammond, Jr., Chad Hammond, Joe Hampton, Dustin Woods, Chris Gumm, P. J. McKay, Jay Jones, Sean Price, Trea Price, Connor Hampton, Adam Hammond, and John Collins. The family will receive friends on Tuesday, March 12, 2013 from 4:00-7:00 p.m. at the funeral home prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, the family request donations be made to Mt. Carmel United Methodist Church Youth Group, 355 Lake Haven Circle, Decatur, TN 37322.
