Carl Jasper Smith, 70, of Cleveland, passed away on Wednesday, May 1, 2013, at the family residence. He was born on August 26, 1942, in Wetumpka, Alabama, to the late Jasper James Smith and Catherine Louise Heisler Smith. He was a graduate of Auburn University and was retired from Arch Chemicals as a Chemical Engineer after 34 years? service. He was an avid runner, cyclist, enjoyed hunting, fishing, and working on his computer. He was a member of Westwood Baptist Church where he served as a Sunday School Teacher and Deacon. He was a loving husband, father, and grandfather. Survivors include his wife of 45 years, Carolyn Tolbert Smith; children, DeWayne Smith and wife Michelle of Eastern North Carolina; Anthony "Andy" Smith and wife Rebecca of Atlanta, Georgia; and Nicholas Smith and wife Erika of Atlanta, Georgia; seven grandchildren, Taylor Smith, Jake Smith, Austin Smith, Megan Smith, Allison Smith, Hunter Smith, and Sidney Smith; sisters, Sue Turner and Catherine Moore; and brother, Hershel Smith. Funeral service will be conducted on Saturday, May 4, 2013, at 2 p.m. in the chapel of Ralph Buckner Funeral Home with Pastor Jim Caywood officiating. Interment will follow in Sunset Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends on Friday, May 3, 2013, from 6 p.m. ? 8 p.m. at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials be made to the Westwood Baptist Church Building Fund, 4001 Georgetown Road NW, Cleveland, Tennessee 37312.
